H.B. Carbide Upskills Workers Thanks to Going PRO Talent Fund Award

H.B. Carbide in Lewiston, Michigan is a small company, but also a global leader in the blank tooling industry. They were established in 1983 with the mission to deliver a superior customer experience with industry-leading custom and altered standard carbide blanks that provide consistency, reliability and advanced capabilities for customers most demanding applications. As a fully integrated manufacturer, starting from powder production through finished ground blank, they offer a comprehensive selection of grades to deliver high-performance, reliable near-net shaped blanks that address specialized customer application challenges across diverse industries.

Working with Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, H.B. Carbide was awarded Going PRO Talent Funding of $33,735 to train 35 of their employees. This funding will not only help the company to remain competitive, but also to help employees further their careers within the company.

The Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center provided all trainings, including 8D Problem Solving, Frontline Leader, Lean Manufacturing Practitioner, Total Productive Maintenance, and Train the OJT Trainer.

H.B. Carbide’s Safety Coordinator shared that the courses opened his eyes to different ways of training and helped him realize how to make their training more interactive like ‘reading the room’ and asking questions of the participants. He has already implemented some of the new approaches in his most recent safety trainings.
