Link Industries has been operating in Indian River, MI since the early 1950s. The core business was moved from Detroit, MI when Herb Link separated the cutting tool division from Link Engineering. Their centerless grinder machines, still in use today, are over 70 years old, and the operator training method has evolved into a hand-me-down, trial and error process. Link’s General Manager, Jeff Veryser, collaborated with Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium to obtain a Going PRO Talent Fund award of $2,400 to formally train two existing workers in Centerless Grinder operations.
Centerless Rebuilders, Inc. conducted a hands-on class in "Centerless Technologies and Practice" for the two employees. Although Link Industries has a regular continuous training program for all employees and understands that investing in training benefits both the employees and the business significantly, this was the first formal training attended by Link employees.
Both trainees returned eager to share their new knowledge. Link’s General Manager, Jeff Veryser, expressed satisfaction in securing the funding through Michigan Works!, stating, "I'm glad we were able to find this class. Centerless grinding has been the one area in our shop that we knew the least about."
