Local Employer Remains Competitive by Utilizing State of the Art Techniques and Upskilling Employees

Savin Lake Services is located in Hale, Michigan. They specialize in aquatic weed and algae management using only the most advanced technical and scientific procedures. They are one of the most successful aquatic nuisance plant management organizations in Michigan, arriving to this position through hard work and dedication to serving their customers to the best of their abilities with a state certified work force and state of the art equipment.

Savin wanted some of their staff to get their FAA license to legally fly drones for work, hoping to utilize drones for advanced spraying techniques. They referred two of their employees to Alpena Community College’s Part 107 Drone Course, and the Michigan Learning and Education Advancement grant program to assist with funding.

Kyle has been with Savin since 2016 and is currently a Dredge Operator and Herbicide Applicator. Prior to this training, Kyle has only had a high school education. After completing the course and receiving his FAA Part 107 certificate and his FAA Remote Pilot License, Kyle has received a $1/hr pay increase and is currently utilizing drones at work to record promotional videos of the drones used for spraying and is working towards using his employer’s larger drones for spraying herbicides.
