Michigan Works! Helps Guide Youth Through Graduation and Career Exploration

Sierra enrolled in the Michigan Works! Youth Program to receive educational and employment support. She faced challenges related to low income and an unstable living situation and she had basic skill deficiencies. Michigan Works! Youth Career Advisor Allison Oakes enrolled Sierra and also registered her in the Jobs for Michigan Graduates program. Through these programs, Sierra actively participated in career exploration and leadership activities, including talent tours, speaker events, MiCareerQuest career exploration events, and post-secondary tours.

Sierra was especially interested in a career in health services, so Michigan Works! was able to provide her with support to reach her educational and employment goals, including driver’s training, exposure to career opportunities, and her graduation cap and gown.

Sierra graduated from Atlanta Community Schools as of May 2024 and will be employed full-time with The Brook of Gaylord. She continues to look to the future and other opportunities in health services.
