February 20—Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium partnered with Rogers City High School to offer a Career Expo for students. Rogers City High School and middle school students, students from St. John Lutheran School and St. Ignatius Catholic School, as well as a group of seniors from Onaway High School were exposed to a variety of careers as 21 businesses had booths at the event. Students had the opportunity to do some hands-on activities, talk to employers about the type of work they do and the type of employees they are looking for as well as learn about these occupations. Many students enjoyed the loader operator simulator at the Carmeuse Lime & Stone booth, while others worked on conveyor belt with Omni Metalcraft. From holding the evasive sea lamprey, to trying to pass a sobriety test wearing drunk goggles and even learning about insurance and wastewater treatment, students and employers were engaged and enjoyed a fun filled day together.
February 27—Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium partnered with Cheboygan High School to offer a Career Expo for students. Throughout the day, various classes were able to come to the gym and explore a wide variety of careers, as well as learn about the many Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at the school. Exploring careers in healthcare, welding, public safety, boat building, plumbing, the military and much more, student visited with employers learning about many different careers. With hands on activities, as well as just talking to professionals in the field, students learned about careers and programs that that they may be interested in pursuing in the future.
