January 10 – Twenty-three students, grades 9-12, from Mio-AuSable Schools toured Kirtland Community College to learn more about post-secondary opportunities.
Student and staff participating in Mio-AuSable Schools industrial arts program toured Kirtland Community College highlighting opportunities available in the Mi Woods Products Institute, the Welding Training Lab, and the Automotive Lab. The tour included a visit to student services, the library, the new housing build, and the gymnasium. Students learned about the variety of programs available at KCC, credentials available, and opportunities to dual enroll.
After the tour, Michigan Works! Youth Career Advisor, Allison Oakes, gave a short presentation on Michigan Works! Youth Services, in-demand occupations, and the online career exploration tool called Pathfinder. In addition, students enjoyed a pizza lunch provided by KCC.
Student feedback reported that they really enjoyed the tour and many were surprised at how many programs Kirtland offers. Many stated they wished the tour lasted longer and went more in-depth into more programs.
