November 4, 2024 - Mio Ausable High School welding students traveled to Onaway to explore Moran Iron Works and Industrial Arts Institute.
The day began at Moran Iron Works with a brief presentation about what the company does before a tour of the entire facility. Students were very engaged and asked a lot of questions, as they were amazed at how large the projects being worked on were. Students were also given the opportunity to see a robot welder at work, and were even asked if they would like to try moving the robot. They were able to learn the reason for using robot welders, to maximize consisitency when working on large projects. They also observed a robotic plasma table making precise cuts.
Following that tour the students traveled down the road to Industrial Arts Institute. Many of the students had already been considering and working towards attending the school. Students were excited to see a recent graduate of Mio Ausable who is now attending the Institute as well. As part of the tour students learned that attending school is more than just being in lab welding as students also do class work and work in metal fabrication as well as learning about leadership. Students walked through the shop, observing the equipment as well as the certification board, showing all the different certifications Industrial Arts Institute students graduate with.
